Supply List

Steve Shamburger, 5 tone grayscale
  • Multiple drawing pencils #s: H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B
  • Several kneaded rubber erasers
  • Minimum 11" x 14" Sketch pad (preferably spiral bound)
  • Drawing Board to support pads (11" x 14" or larger)
  • Medium to large binder clips or art clips (to secure pad to board)
  • Straight Edge such as a ruler

The 11" x 14" or larger pad is to facilitate drawing broadly and boldly. Students will be instructed to keep details to a minimum, opting for a loose, sketchy interpretation of still life setups.

Description

Steve Shamburger, Coffee Break

This ongoing instructional series will teach students the basic drawing skills essential to accurately interpreting any subject in line and tone from direct observation. Classes will include lessons on defining edges, basic shapes used in picture construction, accurate measurement of proportions, line control, and shading. Each class will include demonstrations and exercises that build on previous lessons.

Biography

Steve Shamburger has been a professional illustrator for over 25 years. Since graduating the Art Institute of Houston in 1984, he has produced artwork for such clients as Coca-Cola, Turner Entertainment Television, Sports Illustrated Kids and Time for Kids magazines.

As well as an award-winning commercial illustrator, Steve is also an accomplished caricaturist and portrait artist. He has studied with such notable instructors as Daniel Greene, John Howard Sanden, Michael Del Priore and Gregory Manchess.

A native of Baton Rouge, Steve has also lived and worked in Houston, TX, Kansas City, MO, and Covington, GA. He returned to Baton Rouge in 2008 and continues to freelance from his home-based studio.
