Contemporary Realist Painter

Nancy Stutes is an artist and teacher from Hammond, Louisiana. Her realistic impressions capture the “Spirit and Beauty” of nature and home life. Her work focuses on Landscapes, Still Life and Commissioned Portraiture of Children and Homes. She also teaches her method in workshops.

She earned a BS Degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1969 and taught school for four years. Then, along with family life, she pursued her life-long interest in art, concentrating on landscapes, portraits and art history.

After moving to the New Orleans area, she studied for several years at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. For several years, she took classes which included Color and Design and advanced classes in Life Drawing, Life Painting, Portrait and Figure Painting, Landscape, Cityscape and Still Life Painting working in oils and gouache. Workshops and personal study have offered continuing opportunities to experiment with various techniques and mediums such as pastels, oils, water color, gouache and egg tempera. Studying with accomplished artists including Auseklis Ozols, Alan Flattmann, Judi Betts, Adrian Deckbar, Phil Sandusky, Frank Federico, Sally Strand, and Doug Dawson has provided a strong foundation in the principles of classical art.

Her paintings are shown in solo and group exhibits and can be found in many private and public collections. Nancy has received numerous awards from different art organizations. Recent awards include:
