- Soft Pastels
- Set of 60 - 80 good quality soft pastels - my favorites are Schminche and Sennelier for softness.
- Schminche makes a set of 60 half sticks and Sennelier makes a set of 80 half sticks.
- Rembrandt is also good, but a little harder.
- Nupastels
- 12 or 24 color set, or larger
- Conte
- Two #2354 Sepia crayons
- One #617 Sepia pencil
- Charcoal
- Several sticks of thin, soft and ½" thick, soft vine charcoal and an extra-soft charcoal pencil.
- Paper
- Several sheets of good quality pastel paper. Examples are:
- Canson Mi-Teintes in light, muted colors
- Sanded papers such as Wallis (my favorite), Art Spectrum Colorfix, or Ersta

- Landscape photos, easel, drawing board, portfolio-medium sized (approx. 18" x 24"), clamps, masking tape, workable fixative, denatured alcohol, medium size brush, razor blades, kneaded eraser, scissors, shoe box, soft paper towel, wipes
