JUROR: DON ANDREWS

Don Andrews, AWS, is a highly respected, nationally recognized artist and instructor. He is a graduate of the Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, Florida, and a resident of Fairhope, Alabama.

Don is an active member and past board director of the American Watercolor Society. His paintings have received numerous awards in national competitions, including three awards from the American Watercolor Society, and two Best of Show awards from the New England Watercolor Society.

Don has conducted over 400 painting workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Africa.

Don is the author of the books, Interpreting the Figure in Watercolor and Rough Sketches: Short Stories of a Traveling Artist, as well as the video, Making Watercolor Glow. His new book, Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor, has just been released, as well as his five new DVDs, available individually or as a Watercolor Workshop Set.

You are cordially invited to enter the 40th Annual River Road Show. This is a national juried show sponsored by the Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild and exhibited in the Louisiana State Archives Gallery, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The competition is open to all United States artists over the age of 18.

RULES OF ENTRY

Deadline: September 14, 2009

  • Entry Fees. (non-refundable): $35 for up to 3 entries and $5 for each additional submission, up to 10. Make check or money order payable to Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild.
  • CDs (Preferred). Clearly label CD and case with artist's name and first three titles of artwork with a Sharpie felt tip pen. Use no adhesive labels or tape. Image file name must match exactly the title of the painting as listed on the entry form. Use JPEG format with at least 1000 pixels on the longest side. Images must represent the painting exactly without extraneous background or framing. CDs will not be returned.
  • Slides, in a 2"x2" 35mm format, must be in plastic or cardboard mounts, with no glass or tape. If you wish your slides to be returned, please send a second self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope.
  • Notification of the juror's selection will be sent by November 2, 2009. Provide a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope for acceptance notification.
  • Size and Framing. Accepted works on canvas or board must be framed unless painted on gallery-wrapped canvas. Entries must be appropriately framed and ready for hanging. This requires that no glass is used and screw eyes and wire are properly attached. Mats must be white or a light-colored neutral tone. The maximum framed size is 48" x 48". The artist's name and title of work should be clearly identified on the back of each painting. Non-compliance may void the entry.
  • Eligibility. Artwork must be original and created within the last two years. Photography and digitally-created or enhanced works are not acceptable. No nudes, giclées and/or reproductions are allowed. Artwork previously exhibited in the River Road Show is not eligible.
  • Exhibition. No accepted artworks may be withdrawn, returned or substituted during the exhibition.
  • Liability. The Louisiana State Archives, its employees, LAAG, and/or any of its members, will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to artwork. Insurance should be purchased by the individual artist.
  • Sales. Exhibited artwork will be labeled with the selling price or NFS (not for sale). No commission is charged for sales. Works sold will be given to the purchaser at the completion of the exhibition.
  • Delivery of Work. Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped prepaid by UPS, insured at the artist's expense.
    • Hand-delivered work will be received only on Tuesday, December 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Louisiana State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA.
    • Shipped work must be securely packaged in a legibly addressed reusable box arriving no later than Friday, November 20. Shipping charges (both directions) are to be arranged by the artist. A handling fee of $20 is assessed on all shipped works. Detailed instructions will accompany letters of acceptance.
  • Return of Work. Hand-delivered work should be picked up on Saturday, January 30, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Shipped works will be returned via prepaid UPS using the artist-provided durable, reusable box. Written shipping instructions and prepayment of return shipping costs are required.

  • Completed Entry Form
  • Correctly labeled CD and case or correctly labeled slides inserted into plastic slide protectors.
  • Self-addressed, stamped, #10 envelope for notification.
  • Second SASE for slides you want returned.
  • Check or money order for $35 entry fee plus $5 for each additional submission (payable to Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild)
  • Failure to follow instructions may void your entry.
